UC Trustees Approve Domestic Partner Benefits for Faculty

Yeah, I know, I am somewhat surprised too that UC would do such a progressive thing. But this morning the UC Board of Trustees approved certain domestic partner benefits for faculty represented by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). The areas of benefits include life and accident insurance, long term care, use of sick leave, injury or death of partner, and personal/child-rearing leave for needs related to partner. Even more surprisingly, the Trustees extended the same benefits negotiated by the AAUP to all non-represented staff. And (!), that same language will be extended to employees represented by SEIU. This is a good step towards treating all UC employees equally.

By the way, it won't be long before the wingnuts begin to file lawsuits, and clamor for the heads of President Zimpher and BoT chair Jeff Wyler. Remember Miami and Brinkman?
