Opinions on Oil Prices?

Here is an article on record setting earnings by Exxon. On CBS Sunday Morning last week, Ben Stein commented that oil companies are profit-driven like any other corporation and that they have the right to set prices wherever they want as long as we, the people, keep buying their "refined products." I think we need to seriously cut our dependence on oil as quickly as possible, although I have no brilliant ideas on how to do it. I'm interested to see what anyone else has to say.
